Why is social media so important for promoting your holiday home?

Holiday home rentals in the UK have been around a lot longer than the likes of Instagram and Facebook, but now these social media channels are the first place prospective guests will look to find out more about your property – how it looks inside and out, what people are saying about it, and what’s in the area. Ultimately, if you’re not working on your social media presence, you’re missing a big piece of the jigsaw that helps people decide whether they want to stay at your place or not.

The best social media platforms to promote your holiday home in 2025.

I always tell my social media clients that there are no rules for deciding which platforms to use, but if you want my advice, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok are great for showcasing your holiday home.

Instagram and TikTok are perfect for all your gorgeous visuals and videos and for hosting user-generated content (the things your guests post for you!). Facebook is a hotbed of people looking for reviews and recommendations and gives you a chance to provide extra details that you can’t get from an image alone. Now, let’s get into my simple strategy to turtley transform your socials…

Simple social media strategy to promote your holiday home online.

  • Choose your platforms wisely (you don't want to exhaust yourself!).

  • Decide how often to post. This one is entirely up to you and your capacity, but I recommend 3 times per week spread out across different days for accounts with under 10k followers. Remember, quality and consistency over quantity!

  • Establish your target customer and what they’re into. For example, are they a Gen Z crowd who place value on Instagram-worthy aesthetics and good vibes, or are you aiming your marketing at families who want to know what there is to do in the area?

  • Have a quick peek at what your competitors are posting – nobody likes doing this, but it really is important! You can suss out how you can do it better, or adapt what they’re posting for your own holiday rental.

  • Create your hashtag sets to use on your posts – batch-creating these takes all the thinking out of adding them to your captions each time.

Feel free to grab some of these hashtags to use for yourself too:
