If your business brain is always on, always buzzing about what really motivates the travel community, and if you know that their sunshine-loving travel hearts are constantly seeking the next smart escape, then you’re going to love this travel trend!
In the travel world, we’re seeing a beautiful shift, like a full-on travel tide change. And if you're in the biz, it's one to have on your radar. There’s a big and growing appetite for something I’m calling “Alternative & Value-Driven Escapes.”
Sounds fancy, but honestly, it's just good sense. And I can turtley relate.
So, what does that even mean?
Well, let’s just say the age of overpaying for crowded hotspots during peak season is slowly drifting out to sea. More and more travellers are leaning into holidays that feel luxurious, look incredible, and offer cultural depth—without those eye-watering price tags. Here's a snippet of what people are craving:
Vibrant little coastal towns
Authentic foodie finds
Boutique stays with charm
Local energy over tourist traps
It’s less about flashy resorts and more about experiences with soul. People want beauty, connection, and a bit of breathing room in every sense of the word...much unlike the crowded beaches here on the Dorset coast during the summer holidays!
It’s not “budget travel”; it’s smart travel
Let’s clear something up: this isn’t about “cheaping out” or cutting corners; it’s about finding those destinations where your money goes further and your experience runs deeper - the kind of travel that feels good both in your heart and on your bank account.
You know the places like those hidden gems where the food is better than any guidebook recommendation, stumbling across hidden gems, and walking around feeling like a local.
Travel lovers are looking for authentic experiences that don't look like they're chasing Instagrammable sunsets and snaps.
What does this mean for you as a travel agent?
If you’re a travel agent or travel brand in the industry, this is a golden opportunity to shine. Your clients are searching for meaningful, high-value escapes right now; they just don’t always know where to look. So be the one to show them. These are a few ways that you can achieve this and that I love to advise my community of travel brands:
Create offers that are packed with personality and purpose
Lean into storytelling versus selling
Highlight hidden gems, and talk about what makes them feel good
You could look back and study your customer reviews to see what they really valued about YOU and their precious time away. Trust me, speaking to their wanderlust spirit is what they'll remember you for!
People are booking with their hearts and their heads
In a post-pandemic, cost-of-living-aware world, most travellers are being more mindful. They’re asking:
“Is this trip worth it?”
“Will I feel something when I’m there?”
“Can I stretch my budget without sacrificing joy?”
And the answer, with the right escape, is a big fat YES.
From the Portuguese coast to secret Albanian bays, the options are endless! There are destinations that look straight out of a postcard but cost half the price of the usual suspects. This is your sign to lean into this trend and reshape your digital messaging to reflect what people really want: Connection over chaos, value over vanity, and freedom over filters.
You could use hooks like:
👉 “Underrated gems with postcard-perfect views”
👉 “Five-star feels, without five-star prices”
👉 “Discover more, spend less, feel everything”
People are craving travel that feels aligned. Honesty, reality—can you offer them that? Then you're already halfway to building trust.
In a coconut shell…
The travel tide is changing, and it’s washing in something far more exciting than a poolside sun lounger. This new wave of alternative and value-driven escapes is rooted in conscious spending and deeper meaning and it’s showing up in every part of the customer journey.
Whether they’re booking a babymoon, a sabbatical, or a weekend away to simply breathe, the intention is the same. Keep these three reflections in your pocket to stay on top of this trend and see results from your content efforts:
✨ I want to go somewhere that feeds my soul
✨ I want to feel something real
✨ I want my money to matter
So, if you’re in the travel world, lean in. This is the time to show your clients that they don’t need to spend more to experience more. They just need the right guide (hint: it’s you!).
